Presentation

The presentation turned out pretty well. I am glad that we have been able to experience something like this while working on our games. It gives an incentive to reach out and beyond the class expectations to achieve something great.

My Favorite Game

My favorite game that I have played is probably Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II. It is a real-time strategy game that is played by building a settlement, creating an army, and then destroying your opponents settlement. I estimate that the production of this game lasted about two to four years, but have been unable to find the exact time on the internet.

Demo

While I have not actually learned anything new during the rpoduction of our game demo, I have strengthened the things that I was already aware of. The pupose of our game was not to help us learn, but to make it easier for others that do not already have a firm understanding of our subject matter.

Using Civics Ideas in STEM

Civic can easily be incorporated into STEM. One could make a game that deals with managing credit, a game that explains the relationship between technological advances and citizen rights, or a game that talks about technological advancement and its correlation with living conditions.

Favorite Gaming Example

I prefer to play the Xbox 360 over the other gaming systems. I like it more because of the multiplayer experience over the internet, and the graphics that it has. I typically spend a few hours a week playing Xbox.

Favorite Experience

My personal favorite moments that have been spent in this class are those that are related to teamwork. Working with my team mate is an experience that is very enjoyable and shows how to minds working together can produce something that they otherwise would have been unable to.

Military

I have always been one to appreciate the armed forces. I will always openly support the men that give their lives to protect the individuals that live in our nation.

Sound

If done correctly sound will enable the player to feel immersed in the game while still allowing the game to feel cartoonish in nature. We will have background music and sound effects for certain instances. Overall, the sound will make the game much more enjoyable.

Another SWF File

I got this from my classmates Noah and Tyler, whose team can be found here:

Flash

I actually have found that I greatly enjoy working in flash. I am one who enjoys puzzles and critical thinking problems, and flash closely resembles these two things. To me flash is not only an experience that furthers knowledge but also an interesting game that is very enjoyable.

Animation

Link to Animation

This animation is based on projectile physics, which is exactly what our game is on. Looking at it gives me an idea for what it is that I am going to have to do in our game.

Useful Link

http://physics.about.com/

This link is useful for games like mine because they help the programmer understand exactly what it is that the subject is on.

I found this on Brandon's blog, which is right here

Visual Storytelling

As individiduals will look at our game demo, they will see a series of scenes that will present them with an introduction of our game. While our game itself is technically not a narrative, in a way it could be interpreted as such. Now that I think about it, The Codex of Alchemical Engineering made use of this strategy of visual storytelling as well. Through my experience as one who plays video games on occaision, I have noticed that almost every game that I have played utilizes this.

While working on my game, I have learned a lot about how different forces come together to produce a certain outcome. I came to this understanding by researching the topic of our game, which is projectile physics. I made use of a physics book that I know I am going to be using next semester in my Physics class. I know that this "understanding" is going to be trustworthy, because it is a source that students use almost everyday to further there knowledge.

Paper Prototyping

This week we've been working on our paper protypes. I find these very helpful because the allow us to get a look and feel of what it is that we are trying to do. Without this, I have a feeling that we would have been stumbling along and would have had a lot of difficulties.

Of the two games that I have played today, "The Codex of Alchemical Engineering" was my favorite. I really enjoyed the way in which in required thought and understanding of basic functions. On the other hand, I was not a fan of the other game that I played. This game is called Zeitgeist. While the concept was fun, I found it much to difficult to enjoy leisurely play.

An Introduction

While progressing through this class I wish to become as deft as can be achieved when it comes to working with flash and actionscript. I am looking forward to becoming skilled in these two areas, and have been for quite some time. I intend to make a game that focuses primarily on education yet has a strong entertainment background. Hopefully this combination will work well and lead to a finished successful game. As of right now, I am a complete novice when it comes to actionscript. Honestly, I am most looking forward to increasing my skills with it over the rest of the information that I am going to be learning. I find this ironic, because I am also most afraid of the difficulties that I am going to be facing while advancing through actionscript. I would like my game to be incoporated with physics, because the topic has always intrigued me. For example, the player would have to select values for variables such as gravity in order to create a correct function.
I need to make sure that I keep my privacy intact, as I know that posting personal information can lead to harm for myself and for others that are in my class.
